I just joined Twitter –micro-social networking

Twitter logo

Finally, I just joined Twitter. Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send “updates” (text-based posts, up to 140 characters long) via SMS, instant messaging, the Twitter website or an application such as Twitterrific.

But it’s more than just personal instant diary which was displayed in user’s profile page. These updates also instantly delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them.

Twitter is a nice tool for blogging about small, lightweight and easy things that you don’t want to miss.

Sometimes when I want to blog about my daily activities, but I feel it’s too lightweight to put in some blogs of mine, which each has niche topic.

But now, finally I found Twitter as the way-out: Just twitter it!

You can put your Twitter messages as widget (Twitter called Badges) by putting some codes provided by Twitter. Of course you can customize the badge colour as you like.

How does Twitter work?

When you send Twitter a mobile text (SMS), it gets sent out to your group of friends and also saves to your Twitter page. Your friends might not have phone alerts turned on so they might check your web page instead. Likewise, you receive your friends mobile updates on your phone.

Are my updates public?

Only if you want them to be. If you prefer, you can keep your updates out of the public timeline and restrict them just to your group of friends. To do that, visit your account settings and check the “Protect my updates” box.

Some media like CNN, BBC and CNET also benefitted from this service to spread their news (a good idea, indeed!)

Twitter made its debut in March 2006. Twitter was born as an interesting side project within the offices of Odeo in March of 2006. We are a part of Obvious Corporation in the beautiful South Park neighborhood of San Francisco, California.

Wanna try?

Yes, I have been trying the service for a while — twitter.com/nukov, which I’m also using to feed my other site kuncoro.eu :). Twitter grows too fast now and they’re facing the usual problem of 1-year old popular web service: scalability :). Still, I luv the service.
