The official FIFA World Cup website is currently receiving as many page views as Facebook, the event itself gets "3,000 tweets per second" and Univision.com's live streaming generates 16 million page views.[via RWW]
Facebook in Asia: Indonesia with 18.9 million users!

Just marked its 6th anniversary last month with 400 million users, Facebook also hit another milestone with more than 100 million mobile users. Interesting that 70% of Facebook users are from outside US.
In Asia, Facebook is fast becoming the one the region’s leading social networks. Indonesia has the fourth highest number of Facebook users in the world, after US, UK and Turkey. With 18.9 million users, Indonesia is well ahead of Philippines, the country with 10.5 million Facebook users (refer to table below). This is followed by India (6.8 million), Taiwan (5.8 million) and Malaysia (5.1 million). In terms of penetration rate, Hong Kong has the highest “Facebook users per country population” rate in Asia, at 39%, followed by Singapore (38%), Taiwan (25%), Malaysia (18%) and Philippines (11%). The total Facebook users in Asia is 59.6 million, or about 15% of the global Facebook population.

Google real-time search adds Facebook status updates
Public status updates from Facebook Pages now in Google's real-time search. The new features will be rolling out in the next few days --this time is just available globally in English. "Relevance meets the real-time web," Google says.
The key thing to remember, however, is that Google has much more limited access to Facebook’s real-time data than its competitor, Bing. Microsoft has deeper ties to the social network, as an investor in Facebook and as a search provider for the site. Microsoft has the ability to index public status updates, while Google’s access is limited to updates from Pages, which are vehicles for marketing rather than personal content.

Facebook partners with PayPal
Facebook is partnering with eBay-owned PayPal, enabling people to buy Facebook Ads and Credits.
Facebook and PayPal today announced a strategic relationship to offer PayPal in key parts of Facebook’s advertising and developer systems. “As our business has grown, offering local methods of payment has become increasingly important for advertisers who want to buy Facebook Ads. Teaming with PayPal, a global leader in online payments, makes this possible.”As part of the relationship, advertisers around the world will soon be able to use PayPal to pay for Facebook Ads through the company’s online advertising tool. For businesses in areas where the payment process can be difficult and expensive, the option to pay with PayPal makes it even easier for advertisers, particularly small international companies, to run campaigns on Facebook. Facebook reaches more than 400 million people, 70 percent of whom live outside the United States.
In addition, PayPal will become a payment option for Facebook Credits, which is currently being tested in a small number of games and applications. The goal of Facebook Credits is to give users a fast and easy way to buy virtual goods on Facebook, including items from the Facebook Gift Shop.

Want to tweet for Obama?

President Barack Obama is looking for an official Tweeple. Hohohoho... that's an interesting and exciting job, right? Anyone interested?
The Democratic National Committee’s “social networks manager” job description says the position entails maintaining the President’s accounts on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Mia Cambronero, who currently holds the job, “will be stepping down from my infamous role as ‘Barack Obama’s twitterer,’” she said in an email message posted to a listserv. “We’re looking for someone who is available to start immediately.” The new hire will work closely with the rest of the new media department to execute grassroots campaigns to advance the President’s agenda for change, the listing says. Among the qualifications sought: “Ready to work hard; this isn’t a 9-5 sort of job.”
Facebook email? No, thanks!

When it comes to the online activity, the following is my daily habit in the morning: checking my emails, Twitter and blog's Dashboard.
Frankly speaking, even having two email accounts are too many for me. But those [Yahoo! Mail and Gmail] really help in term of personal email management. I am using Yahoo! Mail for all services' subscriptions and Gmail for self-hosted domain name's mail. I even often Twitter's private messages (called DM) to ping some friends.
Getting notice recently that Facebook is now planning to launch its own webmail service, I am a bit surprised. Do we need a new [web-based] email? Oh wait. Might be Facebook is not targeting user like me. If Facebook is eyeing common users, instead of a user like me, so it does make sense. Why? Because Facebook is becoming less relevant for me. I refuse to even use Facebook for message things.Okay, so Facebook a major news site now ?

Facebook is now the fourth largest source of traffic to news and media sites, according to data crunched by Hitwise. "I always knew it would happen, but not this quickly," my friend Alan Soon wrote.
Skype, still the world's biggest social network
![]()
My colleague Jeremy Wagstaff wrote an interesting piece on Skype and highlighted that the service is still the world's biggest social network! [To be honest, I was also not aware about this fact!]
We talk about Facebook, twitter, MySpace and Friendster as the big social networks but we keep forgetting one that is far bigger than that: Skype. This from a Bloomberg piece on Skype’s vacillating fortunes:Skype has soared in popularity since it started in 2003 and has about 548 million users worldwide—more than Facebook, MySpace and Twitter combined.
